YOGA PUBLIC

200 HOUR YOGA
TEACHER TRAINING

OCT 2026 - FEB 2027

w/ Ilya Vaslavskiy

Practice deeply, study earnestly, teach responsibly

Yoga is many things. It is an ancient practice, an art, a discipline, and a science. For thousands of years it has been passed from teacher to teacher, offering not only a physical practice, but a way of understanding ourselves and the world around us.

This training is an invitation to become part of that tradition. Whether your intention is to become a yoga teacher or simply to deepen your own practice, this course is designed for students who wish to study yoga sincerely. Over five months, we will explore yoga as a personal practice, as a philosophy, and as a discipline that can be shared with others safely, skillfully, and responsibly.

Teaching yoga is a privilege. It asks us to continue learning, to practice what we teach, and to recognize the responsibility we hold when others place their trust in us. This training is built on those principles.

Upon successful completion, students will receive Yoga Public's 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, providing the foundational knowledge and practical teaching experience needed to begin teaching yoga.

Rooted in the Ashtanga Tradition

This teacher training is rooted in the Ashtanga tradition, which provides the structural foundation from which much of modern Vinyasa practice has evolved. While we will explore many dimensions of yoga throughout this training, Ashtanga provides the backbone of our approach. It offers a clear and methodical system for developing a personal practice while helping us understand many of the principles that continue to shape modern Vinyasa yoga.

This is not an Ashtanga-only training, nor is it intended to suggest that there is only one way to practice or teach yoga. Rather, we are using a time-tested system that provides a strong foundation from which to study yoga more broadly and to develop as thoughtful, capable teachers.

Who Is This Training For?

This training is open to anyone with a sincere interest in yoga.

Some students join because they dream of becoming teachers. Others simply want to dedicate meaningful time to their own practice and deepen their understanding of yoga. Both are equally welcome.

There are no formal prerequisites. Previous yoga experience is certainly helpful, but intention matters far more than how many classes you've been to. If you are willing to practice, study, ask questions, and approach the training with sincerity, humility, and curiosity, you belong.

What We Will Study

Over the course of the training, we will explore yoga from both the perspective of a dedicated practitioner and a future teacher.

Areas of study include:

  • Ashtanga Yoga as the blueprint for Vinyasa

  • The foundations and history of yoga

  • The purpose of asana and what posture practice is really for

  • Yoga philosophy, including the Yoga Sutras

  • Living yoga beyond the mat

  • Meditation and pranayama

  • Anatomy, posture theory, and alignment principles

  • Intelligent sequencing and class design

  • Cueing, assists, and adjustments

  • Sanskrit and traditional yogic concepts

  • Practice teaching and constructive feedback

  • The role, ethics, and responsibility of the yoga teacher

  • Yoga as a profession

A Typical Training Day

Every training weekend is designed to balance practice, discussion, study, and personal reflection. While each weekend will have its own focus, a typical day follows this rhythm:

9:00 AM - Begin

9:15 AM - Ashtanga Vinyasa Practice

10:30 AM - Pranayama

11:00 AM - Savasana

11:15 AM - Meditation

11:30 AM - Personal Reflection / Break

11:45 AM - Group Discussion

12:00 PM - Lunch

1:30 PM - Tea

1:45 PM - Asana Lab

2:15 PM - Daily Course Topic

Topics may include Yoga philosophy, anatomy, posture theory, Sanskrit, sequencing, practice teaching, adjustments, or meditation.

4:15 PM - Closing Discussion / Meditation

4:30 PM - Finish

Throughout the program there will also be occasional Wednesday evening workshops that allow us to explore certain subjects in greater depth.

Learning Between Weekends

Although most of the training takes place together in person, meaningful learning also happens between weekends. Students should expect home practice, assigned reading, journaling, self-reflection, observation, and practice teaching. These hours are an important part of the 200-hour certification and help integrate what is learned during each training weekend into everyday life.

Attendance

Students are required to attend every session, but we understand that illness, family responsibilities, and unexpected circumstances occasionally arise. If you miss part of the training, we will work together to ensure you receive the guidance and support needed to successfully complete the program.

Training dates have also been planned around the winter holidays to allow students and their families time to celebrate without conflicting with the training.

After Graduation

Graduates who wish to begin teaching will have opportunities to lead Karma Classes at Yoga Public, allowing you to gain valuable teaching experience in a supportive environment before moving into regular public classes.

For some, the greatest outcome may simply be a richer personal practice and a deeper understanding of yoga that continues to shape everyday life. Both paths are equally meaningful.

A Message from the Teacher, Ilya

What began with a single yoga class has grown into a lifelong practice that continues to shape the way I live, the way I teach, and the way I care for others. Every meaningful opportunity I've had has grown from that practice, and I remain deeply grateful to my teachers for everything they have shared with me.

This will be the fourth Yoga Teacher Training that I have had the privilege of leading. I continue to return to this work because there is a depth to yoga that simply cannot be explored in a regular class setting. Teacher training creates the time and space needed to explore sincerely and to grow together in ways that are rarely possible elsewhere.

Teaching yoga comes from my heart naturally. It is one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I don't take that responsibility lightly. I don't believe a teacher training is the end of the journey. I believe it is the beginning.

Whether you choose to teach yoga after this training or your intention is to deepen your personal practice, my hope is that you leave this training with a stronger foundation, a greater appreciation for the depth of yoga, and a practice that continues to nourish you for years to come.
